A literary and artistic event dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the “O’zbekiston Ovozi” (“Voice of Uzbekistan”) newspaper, founded by the Central Council of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, was held in the Assembly Hall of the Uzbekistan Hotel.
The event was attended by veterans and responsible newspapers, politicians and public figures, and leading writers of today, who warmly recalled working days, the long and challenging path of the newspaper, and noted its current activities. “The newspaper has brought up three generations of journalists”, the participants noted.
This newspaper was first published on June 21, 1918, under the name “Ishtirokiyun”. The newspaper appeared among the first national printed publications in Uzbekistan and throughout Turkestan.
From December 12, 1920, it was published under the name “Red Banner”, later “Turkestan”, from December 1924, “Red Uzbekistan”, from 1964 “Soviet Uzbekistan”, from 1991, that is, from the first days of independence of the country to the present day published as “Voice of Uzbekistan”.
The pages of this newspaper depict the centuries-old history of the country. The newspaper has come a long and challenging way, fighting and defending its interests and protecting our national values under any circumstances.
The newspaper still remembers who we are. The newspaper’s staff has always included selfless workers who remind us of our national values and great history and appreciate and convey them to readers with their articles.
In different periods and years, the chief editors of this newspaper were prominent state and public figures, as well as representatives of art Akmal Ikromov, Sharof Rashidov, Ibrahim Rakhim, Ziyod Yesenboyev, Maqsud Koriyev.
Gafur Gulyam, Maqsud Shaikhzade, Oybek, Pirimqul Qodirov, Muhammad Yusuf, Sadulla Hakim, Azim Suyun, Safar Ostonov, and many other well-known publicists, poets, and writers worked in this editorial office and were famous authors of the newspaper.
Many journalists-publicists who worked and gained extensive experience in this newspaper effectively worked in responsible positions in various state and public administration structures. In this sense, the “Voice of Uzbekistan” editorial office is recognized as a unique training school for the country’s press.
The newspaper has overcome various difficulties in recent years, but it is successfully operating and has developed plans.
The main principles of the newspaper remain the further democratization of the country’s governance, political pluralism, a professional parliament, the strengthening of representative power, the achievement of equality of rights and opportunities, social solidarity and protection, and the glorification of human dignity.
Another factor that always motivates to be responsible is the “Voice of Uzbekistan”.
Those gathered at the event congratulated all the mentors, colleagues, authors, and clients who worked on this historic day in the newspaper’s activities!
