Members of the faction of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan in the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and activists of the Council of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Karakalpakstan visited the Aral Sea International Innovation Centre, where they learned about the centre’s activities and attended a presentation on the use of modern technologies and scientific achievements to reduce poverty.

At the event, Bakhitjan Khabibullayev, a deputy of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, a member of the faction of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and Director of the Centre, delivered a presentation entitled “Innovative solutions for providing material and moral support to the population to reduce poverty in the Aral Sea region.”

As noted, drought-resistant crop varieties adapted to conditions of soil salinity and water scarcity are being tested, while modern agrotechnological solutions are being introduced to enable more efficient use of household plots and generate higher incomes at low cost.

The Innovation Centre is distributing certified seeds free of charge to households in need and low-income households. These measures contribute to the rational use of household plots and help ensure the financial stability of families.

During the presentation, B. Khabibullayev put forward seven priority proposals:

– establish model innovative household plots in every mahalla;

– widely introduce climate-adapted agrotechnologies;

– expand_ the use of new varieties based on gene banks and biotechnology;

– develop “green” entrepreneurship for women and young people;

– establish digital agricultural advisory services;

– attract international investment and grants on a wider scale;

– further strengthen the integration of science, education and production.

During the discussions, it was decided to establish systematic deputy oversight of the introduction of innovative agrotechnologies as part of poverty reduction efforts and to assess their effectiveness, study existing problems, and submit parliamentary inquiries to the relevant authorities.
